Tonos Records - Breaking the Sound Barrier
Out Sept. 19 "Purple Blues"
Celebrating the music of Yusef Lateef
The “Purple Blues”, brought together by pianist and composer Greg Burk, celebrates the visionary music of Yusef Lateef.
As an 18 year old aspiring creative musician, Burk studied improvisation and composition with Dr. Yusef Lateef for a year and a half. This transformative experience set him on a path of joyous curiosity, inspired equally by the mystery of the creative process as well as the exploration of materials of music itself.
Together with pianist Greg Burk, the “Purple Blues” quartet features the mastery and extraordinary musical voices of multi-instrumentalist Achille Succi, bassist Silvia Bolognesi and drummer Gerald Cleaver. This project reunites the collaboration between Greg Burk and Gerald Cleaver that began in the early 90s in Detroit, also the native city of Lateef. This collaboration is documented on several recordings including “Carpe Momentum” (Soul Note Records, 2007).
The swinging and highly spirited rendering of Lateef’s beloved compositions by this stellar group, as well as new music composed by Burk, inspired by his studies with Lateef, provide the consummate musical experience for the listener.

Out March 14 "Unfolding Skies"
Future Selves is an electronic jazz-techno trio that redefines the boundaries between improvisation and sound design. Featuring Kelvin Sholar and Greg Burk on keyboards, and Fabio Recchia on electronics, the group’s debut recording, “Unfolding Skies” (Tonos Records 2026) is a journey through pulsating rhythms, evolving textures, and spontaneous musical dialogue. "Unfolding Skies" invites us to make room for our Future Selves.
